No Townie Girl Was I came to life after a trip to Newfoundland. There is nothing better for a writer than to hear the tales of the land and the people. This song is Kay's story who left her small coastal village on the east coast of the island to follow her love to St Johns. After raising her family, he left her and she was in the process of making a decision to return to her village. I wonder if she ever found her way back home.
This week’s poem, Fairy Land is from my journal. It’s a simple autumn overview, captured in a moment of breathtaking beauty.

NO TOWNIE GIRL
I was born by the sea where the church bells ring
No townie girl was I
Where the stars shone bright as the north winds cried
And dreams rolled with the tide
There I followed my love far away from home
Where the buildings kissed the sky
And there abandoned was I after all our years
One sad winter’s night
Chorus
Now the cold lays heavy in my bones
And my heart’s grown quiet as stone
Come step with me ‘cross this old oak floor
And take my heart back home
So light a candle dear let me touch your face
Let me stare into your eyes
If I could only love - if I could only try
For just one more night
I was born by the sea where the wildflowers grow
Cross fields of green and stone
Now I must /fe di’wel/ oh fare thee well
And live my life alone
Chorus
Come step with me ‘cross this old oak floor
And take my heart back home

FAIRYLAND
The forest door opens
Rays of sunlight break through
I stand before it’s autumn light
As her colours explode
The quiet is breathtaking
A galaxy ignites
Yellow leaves descend
Twirling in random free-fall
Its here, you grasp the stillness
The poetry of it
How the fallen, tumble like angels
Released from the branches of heaven
