Week Forty-Eight - A Thousand Miles

This week’s entry is A Thousand Miles, written for my wife Joy and her mother, whose life was threatened by cancer. She survived. This song is about the bonding between Mother and Child the inexplicable connection that stands the test of time.
This week’s prose, In A Moment, is from my third book Horizon. It’s about recovery, the aloneness of waiting to heal, through therapy and the slow process of finding a way back to health, too a new, yet different beginning.

A THOUSAND MILES

I’m on my way to you
North to the heart of the land
In your shadow I stand
With faith I make this journey
Far from the world’s deep chill

I’ll be with you this night
Oh to stand at your side
And hold you in my life

Chorus
And you opened my eyes
To a brand new day
You are the heart and soul of me
That time will never steal away

Parted by the worlds we know
Falling down our passage of time
We’re two hearts in a sacred dream
A mother and child with faith to believe

Chorus

You live in me - I breathe in you
Mama
From a thousand miles
A thousand miles away

I can feel you in me - I’m laid open today
From a thousand miles
A thousand miles away
Yeah - yeah

IN A MOMENT

In a moment, my cells are clean
Washed away like dreams in the night
These beginnings
Sing with a chorus of wellness
Of recovery
With each deep breath
I trust

Looking back
I pummelled stone until my hands bled
I sought peace in the depth of night
There, I lay in the silence of perpetual longing
It was so hard

Now, in the sunlight of autumn
I move from shadow
Slowly, in increments
I step forward towards the light.
