Week Forty-Four - Wee Mary

This week’s entry is Wee Mary based on an Irish legend turned myth of Wee Mary, a young girl who falls into a medieval dream protected by an Angel as she disappears into fate’s whim.

Recorded long ago when my daughter Katherine was younger, there are pops, breathing and distortion in this old recording, but I love the song and it’s story. I did my best to recover it and I hope whoever gives it a listen feels as I do.

This week’s poem is from my journal collection Remnants, Creating a Musical Soup-Mix. It’s what I do. In my little studio I take raw songwriting ideas and slowly create a path to where each song finds it’s place, a home. It’s a hit and miss process that fills my creative soul.

WEE MARY
Seven carnations drift - cast on Martin’s Lake
Last where Wee Mary stood
At the edge of Heaven’s gate
Tiny and footloose - her black hair splayed by wind
Into some medieval dream
She fell to fate’s whim

Chorus
I have an angel on my shoulder
One who guards my fragile heart
I have an angel on my shoulder
Who follows me into the dark

Now the angel of Wee Mary calls upon the shore
One night she stood before me
And spoke of her lore
The call of passing that winter’s night
From so long ago
Now I will never be the same at heaven’s open door

Chorus

CREATING A MUSICAL SOUP-MIX

All day I listened
On so many levels
In the dark
Beneath the coloured lights
In the spaces between
I waited
Tweaked the virtual sliders
Searching for the sweet spot
With my metaphor of instinct

Mending - Mining
Editing - Quantizing

Finding a way
Towards the final remedy

When all the faders
Find home…
