Week Forty-Six - The River

This weeks entry is an instrumental, The River. I wrote this piece sitting on a rock near a beautiful falls on the Magnetawan River. We recorded it in our little studio and gradually added some colour. I can still feel the rhythm of that current to this day.

This week’s prose is called Silent Lake. For years this was our familys go to place, a lake where no motorboats were allowed and the quiet was perfect. This poem describes a deep dive into her mysterious underwater world.

SILENT LAKE

Over slick rock and water moss
I ease into the black water
I watch the specks of minerals drift by
Its as if this lake feeds me with her plankton
Bathes me in filtered sunlight

I cut her surface and dive – deep
My webbed fingers and toes treading, pulling
I blindly forage her underwater world
This breathless universe

Where muddy earth clings to forgotten stone
And secret forests decay
Where the call of primal loons long muted, linger in memory

Above me, the pattern of sky pulls
My lungs scream for oxygen
I follow the annealed veins of water plants, resolute to the surface
Gasping for air in the sun’s sweet flower
