Week Seven - I Keep Good Watch

Another song from the deep well. It has evolved since the late nineties when we jammed it in practice. Still, we kept revisiting it… just couldn’t let it go.
We loved the song, Joy added an extra verse and here it lands. It is centered around light and dark and how finding love pulls one from the shadows into the light.

Joy Palmer Brooks - vocals, harmonies, flute
Fredrick Brooks - guitar, keys, bass, harmony
Chris Pezzarello - drums

I Keep Good Watch

I keep good watch
In the hour before the dawn
Where the light of day
Seems so far away

There I heard your voice
Calling out my name
Oh love take my hand
I’ll show you heart’s way

Chorus
Oh my love - I am here in the dark
Where my tired world spins
Now you offer me your heart
And light

I keep good watch - from so far away
Where I long for your touch
And the warmth of your embrace

Chorus
And light - and light - and light

This weeks poem explores the process of creating  music with all it's beauty and complexity.

I LISTEN

I listen from the prism of song,
The myth of keys
For the elusive wheel of tone

Always the rumours
The mistaken voices
These twelve familiar strangers

Calling me
Seducing me
Into their unknown rooms of improbability
