This week’s entry is Clear Lake, one of our oldest band tunes. The song was written after a canoe trip, most of it on Clear Lake in northern Ontario. A simple text that portrays the stillness and the wildness of the remarkable north.
This week's prose, Flock, is from my third book Horizon. It’s a quiet celebration of family that have gone before. Reminding me how their memory lives on and they’re never lost.

CLEAR LAKE
Clear Lake
Charcoal and liquid
I breakwater
The stillness is mine
This outsider
Adrift I
Move on this watercolour
So fine
White bellies flash
In the heart of the deep
Two hawks hover
Mirrored free
One cries in chance
Two scream down the wind
They eye my life
Wing away again
Clear Lake
Charcoal and liquid.

FLOCK
Quietly, I address the stone garden,
Gathered markers from northern lands
Heaven-stones for our departed.
My litany,
My spiritual invocation,
These are my angels
The cross of my breast.
My heart is here with them in fragments,
Reminding me how loss punishes
How memory lives on
Arm in arm
With happiness and sorrow
